DoDEA
DoDEA, the Department of Defense Education Activity, is responsible for
DoDDS (Department of Defense Dependents School) and also for
DDESS (Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools ).
DoDDS includes 153 schools, over 6,100 teachers, and over 71,100 students. The schools are located in the following countries: Bahrain, Belgium, Cuba, England, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Korea, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and Turkey.
DDESS includes 69 schools, over 2,600 teachers, and over 31,500 students. The schools are located in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
The Director of DoDEA is Dr. Tafoya. Headquarters are in Arlington, Virginia.
   
DoDDS-Europe
The 111 schools in DoDDS-Europe are organized into 5 districts.
Schools are located in the countries of Bahrain, Belgium, England, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and Turkey.
The Director of DoDDS-Europe is Ms. Ohman. Headquarters are in Wiesbaden, Germany at the American Arms Office Towers.
   
Heidelberg DSO
The Heidelberg District Superintendent's Office serves 24 schools in 6 complexes.
Schools are located in the communities of Heidelberg, Mannheim, Darmstadt, Babenhausen, Rhein Main, Giessen, Bad Nauheim, Butzbach, Hanau, Gelnhausen, Dexheim, and Wiesbaden.
The superintendent of the Heidelberg DSO is Dr. Walker. Headquarters are in Heidelberg, Germany.
