Database Services

Many magazine articles, newspaper articles, encyclopedias, and other information sources are available online using the sites below. DoDDS subscribes to the following services for our school.

If you are accessing from home, you can request the passwords from the school office. Email your request to them and they will send the passwords to you. This information is available only to students of Aukamm Elementary School and their families.

Proquest -- SIRS Discoverer, Culture Grams and Professional Education
• Periodicals, journals, works of fiction, and encyclopedia
• World Almanac for Kids, Roget's II Thesaurus, and the American Heritage dictionary
• Three thousand U.S. and world printable maps (detailed, historical and outline)
• SIRS photo essays may be searched by topic and self-emailed to the user
• Training pod casts
• “Born this Month,”15 Top Pick subjects and a monthly challenge quest
• Culture Grams, written by natives of the countries includes facts, customs, lifestyles, maps, recipes, currency, photos, data, audio pronunciations of the country name and a sound track of the national anthem
• Teacher lessons to support student use of the package
• 400 professional journals with full-text articles
• Database searches to include: title, keyword, subject/topic, author, Boolean logic, natural language,
date, reading level, Lexile level, and type of media
• Results sorted by relevance, date, or Lexile level, ascending or descending order
• Pathfinders to finding information
• Ability to setup an alert feature in the Professional Education database allowing teachers to remain updated on research topics
